Residential Frequently Asked Questions

General Roofing Questions

Common signs include missing or damaged shingles, leaks, sagging areas, or a roof that is 20+ years old. A professional inspection is the best way to determine whether repair or replacement is the right solution.

In many cases, yes. If the issue is isolated, a repair may be sufficient. However, if the roof is aging or has widespread issues, replacement may be the more cost-effective long-term option.

Most residential roof replacements are completed in 1–2 days, depending on size, complexity, weather, and material type.

The lifespan of a roof depends on the material, installation quality, and ventilation. Asphalt shingles typically last 20–30 years, while slate and tile roofs can last significantly longer with proper preventative maintenance.

Roof replacement costs vary based on size, materials, pitch, accessibility, and overall complexity. The best way to get accurate pricing is through a professional on-site estimate.

No—roofing costs depend on many variables that require an on-site evaluation. Photos can help expedite the estimating process, but a full inspection ensures accuracy.

Minor Repairs & Service Calls

You can book a service call through our online form or by calling our office. Our team will review your issue and schedule a technician to evaluate and complete repairs where possible.

A standard service call includes a visit for a technician to diagnose the issue and perform minor repairs where possible.  All service calls are subject to a minimum charge.  Additional time or materials may result in added cost. Service calls are reserved for repairs expected to be completed in 1-2  hours.  If the issue appears more complex, the project is referred to our estimating team for a full evaluation and detailed proposal.

Many routine minor repairs are completed within a few days, depending on demand and weather. More complex issues will require a detailed estimate and scheduling.  Seasonal backlogs are common in wet months.

Leaks are often caused by damaged shingles, failing flashing, aging materials, clogged gutters, or issues around penetrations like vents and chimneys.

Gutter Systems & Drainage

Gutters direct water away from your home’s roof, siding, and foundation. Without proper drainage, water can cause structural damage, leaks, and erosion.

Most homes should have gutters cleaned at least twice per year—typically in the spring and fall. Homes with heavy tree coverage may require more frequent cleaning.

Yes, in many cases. However, older or severely deteriorated systems may require replacement for long-term performance.

Box gutters are built-in gutter systems commonly found on older homes. While some repairs are possible, long-term solutions often involve installing a new liner system.

Gutter protection systems can significantly reduce debris buildup and maintenance, but they do not eliminate the need for occasional cleaning.

Materials & Systems

We primarily install asphalt shingles, slate & tile roofing, and low-slope, TPO, EPDM, rubber systems. We also provide gutter systems, ventilation, and exterior services.

Asphalt shingles are made of a fiberglass base coated with asphalt and mineral granules, providing durability, weather resistance, and aesthetic appeal.

Dark streaks are typically caused by algae growth. Many modern shingles include algae-resistant technology to help prevent this from occurring.

Yes. Flashings are critical to preventing leaks, and replacing them ensures the new roof performs properly over time.

Ventilation & Attic Performance

Proper ventilation helps regulate temperature and moisture in your attic, preventing mold, ice dams, and premature roof deterioration.

Yes. Poor ventilation can trap warm, moist air in the attic, leading to condensation and potential damage.

Absolutely. Proper airflow reduces heat buildup, improves comfort, and helps extend the life of your roof.

Weather & Seasonal Issues

Ice dams form when melting snow refreezes at the roof edge, causing water to back up under the roofing system.

The best solutions include improving insulation and ventilation, and/or installing ice and water shield.

Yes, roofing can be performed year-round, though weather conditions may impact scheduling and installation methods.

We monitor weather closely and take precautions to protect your home if conditions change during installation.

Process & Expectations

No, but it can be helpful. Being available allows you to discuss concerns and ensure all aspects of the project are addressed.

Turnaround time varies depending on demand and project complexity, especially during peak seasons.

Service call work is often completed within days, while larger projects may require additional scheduling time due to demand and weather.  Seasonal backlogs can occur, depending on the time of year.
